Children and Adults

Here is what Shogo and Mai had to say about the differences between children and adults after reading pages 1-27 of The Little Prince.

The narrator used to have child thinking way, but as he adjust his level to the grown-ups, he is losing the mind of child.

The Little Prince asked him to draw a sheep but the narrator’s thinking about sheep and Little Prince’s thinking was different.

He experienced the same thing when he was a child. He can’t see a sheep through the crate. This time his position is completely opposite. It shows the difference between adults and children.

What do you think the narrator thought when he realized he is losing the mind of a child?

  1.   Akimi Says:

I think he is sad and upset because he was desappointed at grown ups didn’t understand what he drew, boa constrictor.
I think he doesn’t want to be such grown ups but uncounciously he became like them.
He might be disappointed with himself.

  2.   Kaori Says:

I think the narrator uses the way of thinkings of adult

sometimes and he also uses the way of thinkings of child, so

I think the narrator doesn’t lose mind of child compretely.

  3.   Nanako Says:

He fell into self-hate, I think, because the grown-ups cannot enjoy everything, and understand pure thought like child. Having the thoughts of child is important for people to enjoy life.

  4.   Azusa Says:

I think it is when he was asked to draw the picture of sheep by The Little Prince. He began to lose the child’s mind when he talked about politics and neckties that grown-ups liked. When he abondoned an artist at the age of six, he did’t lose it because he was willing to ask about the picture of a boa constrictor.

  5.   Takayuki Says:

It is a really pity fact. However, the little prince can help him, so the prince appeared in front of him. Now is turning point for him to keep child mind or loos it, and the prince is key person, I guess so.

  6.   Saori Says:

I guess he felt sad when he realized that he lost the mind of a child. Especially in his case, he had loved drawing pictures in his early days so this caused him sadness much more than ordinary people.

  7.   Yumi Says:

I think he was shocked at losing the mind of a child. As children become adult, they get a lot of knowledge. However, grown-ups have too much knowledge, so grown-ups tend to think deeply and suspect something or someone. Not that they want to do so.

  8.   Midori Says:

I think he was sad and shocked when he realized his lack of the child’s mind. I’d believed that I’m like a child, but I thought that I was kind of adult when I was reading this book and I was a little shocked at that time.

  9.   Ayumi Says:

I think I’m also loseing my child mind, because sometimes I cannot undestand some parts of this book. When I was child I wanted to be an adult soon, but now I don’t want to lose my childish feeling. I watch the children’s behaviours and I sometimes envy their way oh thinking.

  10.   Yuki Says:

Saori or someone said, he was sad when he realized his grown up.But, I think he also felt joy not only sadness.
Actually, he was concealing his real idea in front of adults. He felt boring or he is not satisfied. However, he met a person who has more wonderful thinking. He is the little prince. He was attracted him soon, and realize that I don’t need to hide the real thinking.

  11.   Marina Says:

I think he is disapointed in himself about he has lost his child’s mind. There are some things that I can’t undbrstand in this book. If i could get back children’s mind, i would be able to see various point of views from children.
