Numbers

Here is what Kaori and Azusa had to say about the meaning of numbers to children and adults after reading pages 1-27 of The Little Prince.

Grown ups like numbers. The narrator said that the Little Prince came from Asteroid B-612, so he is also adult.

When Azusa was young, she didn’t pay attention to the price tag, as she became older, she look at it, so she thinks she is older.

When Momo is in club, she often ask or is asked “How many …?” etc And when she goes shopping and discovers something is beautiful, she considers by using numbers.

Did you experience something like these things? If you have these experiences, please tell me. Do you think these actions are sign of adult?

I have an experience like Azusa.
When I was an elementary school student, I went to some shopping to help my mother.
After I came back home, my mother always said “you should look at use-by date”.
I didn’t care about the date, but now, I think it is important.
I think numbers are very useful to consider what you do next or what will be happened later.

I think that to think about numbers is a sign of adult. When I go shopping, I think about the price but when I was a child, I didn’t think about it so much. I think that people use numbers as they become old because we can understand the things clearly by using numbers so it is a sign of adult.

Maths is very logical thinking. It is really complicated for many people, include children. However, mathsmatical idea is not just for adults. When I was a elementary school student, I really like counting numbers, so I went to abacus school. Therefore, it is not sign for adults, I hope.

  4.   Saori Says:

If once I heard the term “number”, I surely associate with “money” because in our world we can’t have standard life without an appropriate money in general. Actually, I am still a student so I don’t care too much about money because in my case, my parents pay all the tuition and give living expenses to me every month. When you join adult society I guess people must care more about number in other words money.

  5.   Satomi Says:

As most grown-ups do, when I go shopping and find my favorite clothes, I always check its price tags. It’s because grown-ups know a value of money, and children don’t know about it so much yet. That’s why childeren don’t care about money. So, to care about number is not always bad.

  6.   Midori Says:

I think using numbers is a sign of adult. I always check the price when I go shopping and I use numbers when I separate people into some groups. I used other things like fruits and floers in stead of numbers when I was a child.

  7.   Marina Says:

I think that numbers are a symbol of being adult. When I was young, I didn’t care much about numbers. However, many adult people care about it. There is many good points to use numbers but I think numbers can’t help being a fixed way of seeing in everyday lives.
